Scams

Sadly, as in most areas of life, there are tricksters and crooks who try to make money out of those starting in modelling. This page is aimed at describing some of the scams. Do not let it put you off modelling, if you give a little thought to avoiding these you should find modelling a pleasant option.

Money Scams

The Fake Agency.

At First: Someone approaches you in the street, via an advert, email, etc. They tell you that they are a talent scout for a top agency and you definitely have The Look. They would love to sign you for their books.

The Con: They ask you to pay for a photographer to take your pictures for their book / website. They might even ask you to pay for a listing. They assure you that once you have done that the jobs will come pouring in.

The Reality: They are making their money from you paying for the photos / listing. There is no incentive for them to actually get you jobs as they are making money from you anyway.

Advice: Legitimate modelling agencies will be making their money from their slice of your fees. If they don't think they will make enough money from you to cover the costs of your portfolio / listing they won't take you on. Therefore if any agency asks a model for money, have nothing to do with them.
